Flirts, Floods & Flowers

Friday, April 16, 2010

We started our morning off with a lovely make-up class at Wiggleworms, taught by our favorite teacher, Diana. The class quickly turned into something resembling a crack-infused indoor jungle gym -- in large part because of the entrance of my overly-hyper child and his crazy antics -- and more than half of our playgroup, including Ayize, Greta AKA Garbo, Luke, Moxie, Jonah and Brady, whooped it up like wild things.
Afterwards, we walked Garbo to her car and Ayize flirted shamelessly with her, moving in for smooches and hugs...

...and cat-calling her as he tiptoed about daintily.

Fortunately, she was not displeased with the attention.

Next, off to the house for more child-proofing.
I decided to tackle two very easy air intake vents. They both lift off from the ground so applying wire to the underside and fastening it on was a cakewalk compared to the complications of the other eight (non-removable) exhaust vents.
Gathered my materials: wiring, wire ties, wire cutters, needle-nosed pliers, and the first of the two vents, and got started.

Piece of cake! I thought my corners turned out pretty tidy, too, and my wire ties came out fairly neat, so here's a closeup for you to admire LOL:

Job done, I rambled out into the garden to see what new foliage was springing up (Ayize was thankfully still napping after his wild Wiggly morning), and snapped this shot of my many purple pretties.

By the way, they are still in glorious bloom, over a month later.
I also took a closeup of some of my magnolia blossoms. I am absolutely head over heels with my "Susan magnolia" tree, as I learned it is called (credit to the Chicago Botanic Gardens).

Amongst my willowy grassy weeds, these adorable cornflower blue babies continued to sprout, fighting for space, soil and sun.

There is a border of bricks laid around that whole weedy area and many of the bricks appear anti ue. Some are even stamped with words, like this one, which happens to be my favorite brick in the yard (I think they meant to write "salvage", not "savage" on it, ha ha ha).

I also wanted to document my glorious new gutters so off I went, stomping round the house, taking photos as I went.
For starters, I had new gutters added to the front entranceway. Voila:

The rest of the gutters are simply a one-for-one replacement of the existing gutters, but they were replaced with higher-quality material box gutters and they were also a bit bigger than the old ones. Front of the house (right side):

Ayize finally woke up around 3 and was delighted when some friends came to play not long after. First Kai and Kayla (oh, and of course Princess Tiana too).

Then Brady.
For some reason, Ayize kept raising his hand like he had a question in class or something. Too funny!

Anyhow, after giving Jeanine and Brady a quick tour of the house, we all headed out to Lovelace Park to meet Tamara and Brianna.

It was a beautiful -- though breezy -- day.

Patiently waiting for a turn on the swinging seat...

...but it looks like it might be awhile, cuz it's just so jolly!
Next, we headed towards the pond to feed the birds.

These three kids kept a safe distance from the water...

...the ill-tempered geese...

...and the ducks.
But do ya think Ayize would have had the same sense??

In a nutshell: NO!

Wheeeeee!

Splish, splash, uh oh, looks like that one pants leg is starting to unroll.

D'oh!

Three trees and three equally pretty shadows.

The daffodils were just gorgeous...

...though Kai was more into the dandelions!

Guess who came to the park after getting off work?
Kayla gleefully gets the upside-down hang from her pops.

Awwwwwwww.
By the way, I made them pose in front of the pond thinking it would give the photo a "tropical vacay" kind of feel. Can I get an amen?

These three did a "circuit" through the poor daffodil patch. They had a whole routine going, it was pretty impressive.
Anyhow, it was now waaaay past dinnertime, so we reluctantly bade the park and our friends a fond farewell and headed for home.

My new boss says, "Mom is..."

My Photo
Giving it my all every day, trying to do a job meant for two people to share. There are ups, there are downs. But my fantabulous kid makes the downs bearable and the ups immeasurable. Ayize, you're the greatest! I love you with all my heart!!! For more whining and ranting, and a better profile descript than I could possibly fit here, see the June 3, 2009 post entitled "The 168 Hour Work Week". Thanks for stopping by!
