Spent the morning at the library downtown with Tamara and Brianna.
We got a nice surprise when the Purple Crayon Players, an NU children's theater group, arrived to present a story. Apparently they are going to do so on the first Saturday of every month of at 10 a.m.
Unfortunately, they either failed to advertise, or there's just not much call for that sort of thing, because the audience consisted of four people, two of them me and Tamara, and the other two our better halves! Oh well, at least the audience was very attentive. Still...the college kids could hardly hide their disappointment at this epic acting fail.
And sadly, half the audience grew bored within five minutes and ran off to the padded baby play area where they collected all the baby dolls and dangled them upside down by their feet, giggling merrily.
Us: "What are you guys doing to the babies?"
Brianna: "They're crying. It's okay, babies. Shh, shh."
Ayize: "We help them (shaking one vigorously by its ankles up and down). Shh, shh, baby, ha ha ha, shh!"
Then both kids began shouting "Shhhhh!" and giggling and shaking the babies. Brianna changed tactics after a bit and actually cradled and cuddled her baby, but Ayize dropped one on its face and threw the other across the baby play area, insisting he was "helping" it to stop crying. Suffice it to say that Tamara will probably NOT be calling Ayize for babysitting the about-to-be-born wee bairn in her belly.
Tired of doll torture, Ayize decided to imitate a crying baby himself. He lay down on the padded bench and pretended to "waaah" but this kept making him laugh, so the task was challenging...I caught this photo of him looking very drama-mask-faced as his true emotions comically conflicted with his acting.
Back to the babies.
He also interspersed some Princess Diana waves my way, as he gaily bid me a "Bye! Bye, Mama!" despite the fact that I was clearly headed nowhere in a hurry.
What're you trying to say, kid??
Man, all these crazies have a kid tuckered out.
So we headed home for lunch and a nap.
Meanwhile, Nyika, Daryle and the girls, Kai and Kayla, were just arriving home from a heavenly weekend staycation at Key Lime Cove. They had their lunch and headed over to the house as soon as Ayize was up from his nap.
Hooray! We were so psyched to see them and to give them "Le Grand Tour" (all two seconds of it, as the house is quite compact LOL) of our new crizz-nib!
Kayla found the tape measure and immediately offered some renovation assistance.
"That'll be two and a quarter feet, please!"
The kids discovered an old landline (disconnected) that the previous owners left for us inside a computer desk. They had a grand old time making a bunch of phone calls to "Papa" (my dad) and Grandma Bev (Nyika's mom).
"Hello?" was the oft-repeated refrain, punctuated by small tussles over whose turn it was to dial.
Hooray, our first visitors! Our house was really starting to feel like a home now.
And, well...can't really call them "visitors" since the Byrnes, Prendergasts and Stricklands are truly family to us. So let's just say, another page to add to me and Ayize's beloved "family album"!
