This is an earnest, honest-to-goodness plea for a one-dollar donation.
Me, Ayize, Weeman, and Calen will be walking in the Strut for Strays on Saturday, May 11, 2012 in loving memory of our many animal companions who have preceded us to the Rainbow Bridge - especially Monty and Alfie (above), beloved friends to three of us four walkers, who passed away in January of 2008 and January of 2009 respectively.
In 2008, we raised $75.
In 2009, we raised $467.
But the important thing is not the total.
It's that EVERY DOLLAR TRULY MAKES A DIFFERENCE.
Why am I asking you to consider donating just one buck (despite the fact that doing so makes for a ridiculously teeny credit card transaction)?
Because every one of those one hundred pennies goes towards the rescue and rehabilitation of our local homeless animals. Multiple one-dollar donations add up fast (as attested to by previous years).
The photos at the top of the page are just a few of the handicapped dogs and cats our family has adopted from CARE over the years. These guys would not have stood a chance without this wonderful organization and the money they raise for food and medical care, solely through these fundraisers.
Pets like Dumpee (found in a trash can); Monty (7-week-old puppy chained to a hot water heater); Digby (hit by a car, lost a rear leg); Annabelle (5-week-old puppy with an acquired seizure disorder after being bitten through the skull by an adult dog); Alfie (congenitally deaf, thrown from a car, with permanent brain and spinal damage as a result); Brassy and Teeny (17-year-old chihuahua sisters); Fitty Cent (fought, shot, and had his jaw smashed with a blunt object); Auggie (our decrepit old lover of a cat); and the well-known Weeman (closed into a cat carrier filled with Lysol and left in the snow to freeze, just days before Christmas).
There is no non-profit organization I know of that is as unique and amazing as CARE. The organization is solely comprised of volunteers. Zero paid staff. Regular folk who go in week after week to scoop litter, walk dogs (whether in freezing rain or 95-degree sun), clean cages, pick up poop, dispense TLC - whose only "earned income" from those many hours of labor is the satisfaction of knowing they have helped and loved those who cannot help themselves and have known little or no love in their lives. Every penny donated to CARE is guaranteed to be a penny well-spent.
Please consider giving just one buck.
